Painting is at the core of my being, and when I do it no matter what is happening in my life or in the larger world I feel I’m doing what I should be doing, it’s an affair of the heart.

 So to define in a rational way why I’ve always painted is complex and for a myriad of reasons. These reasons have varied in their weight of importance with the passing of time but there are lifetime constants. I like beauty, colour, and light, and I also need a sense of space in my work. So by combining these elements I am able to enter into my pictures and experience almost as a meditation, aspects of myself which without painting I would not have been able to do.
