This series of paintings was created following an intensive period of study and practice of Tantric Yoga, which I undertook while living and travelling in the Himalayas. One essential part of my practice was- and still is- to purify the five elements within the body. Here I tried to create an expressive portrait of the physical matter that composes our world, while alluding to the complex systems, energies, and processes which remain, invisible, within the environment around us. In a way, I intended to demonstrate the conversation that is taking place between artistic media (in this case, paint and the painting body) and the element it represents. To me this series was a conversation with matter and these resulting paintings not only embody the material world, but strive to reach beyond it.
