Theo van de Goor is an artist by profession. At first glance, his paintings, objects and etchings may seem very different. The subjects of his work also differ; from still life and natural scenery to mythical, biblical and classical scenes and further on to fables and self-portraits. A returning theme in the artist's work, however, is Theo van de Goor himself. He made paintings of himself as an angry missionary, as a Roman soldier, as an American Indian and as a devil. He made etchings of himself as the biblical figures Beelzebub and Apollyon. The objects he creates are colorful fantasy creatures. Many of these objects also conceal images of the artist himself.
Theo van de Goor is a Dutch artist inspired by fables, myths, and devils. Growing up on a farm in a small village of Roman Catholic denomination in the southern part of the Netherlands, animals, demons and mythological creatures populate his work.
He made paintings of himself as an angry missionary, as a Roman soldier, as an American Indian and as a devil. He made etchings on himself as the biblical Beelzebub and Apollyon.
From still life and natural scenery to mythical, biblical and classical scenes and further on to fables and self-portraits, his work forms a universe, telling a story about the eternal struggle of mankind within good and evil.

Theo van de Goor is ongetwijfeld een van de meest toegewijde Nederlandse kunstenaars. Elke dag tekenen, etsen, schilderen en fantastische objecten bouwen. Natuurlijk is hij een beeldend kunstenaar, maar hij is óók een verteller: een verteller in beelden. Een kenmerkend aspect van zijn kunstenaarschap is namelijk het etsenboek. Een etsenboek is een soort kunstenaarsboek en kunstenaarsboeken zijn volgens Van Dale boeken die als zelfstandig kunstwerk door een kunstenaar zijn gemaakt en gewoonlijk bestaan uit een thematisch samenhangende reeks tekeningen of prenten die meestal een bekend verhaal ‘navertellen’. He is a visual artist, of course, but in a way Theo van de Goor is also a storyteller: a storyteller in images. A typical aspect of his oeuvre is the etching book, a sort of artist’s book.
