Description

I painted this Theyyam-inspired piece in acrylic on canvas because, as a young Gen Z artist, I felt a magnetic pull toward its ritual flame, mirror-like reflections, and ancestral drumbeats—it felt alive inside me. I want people who see this work to feel the devotion, the sacred energy, and the transformation—the moment a dancer becomes divine. I chose bright acrylics because they let me capture the bold colors and glimmering light of the ritual in a way that feels fresh and powerful, mixing traditional imagery with a modern visual style that speaks to my generation’s creativity and cultural pride.

Satish Jagannath Tayade

I’m Satish Tayade an independent painter based in India, with over 22 years of artistic experience dedicated to exploring the human spirit through bold, expressive portraiture. My work has evolved into a powerful visual language that amplifies Gen Z feminist narratives, using art as a tool to represent stories that are often unheard, unseen, or overlooked.
From the earliest days of my career, I have been drawn to painting people—not simply as subjects, but as living stories. For me, portraiture is more than capturing a likeness; it’s about reflecting the emotional truths, convictions, and struggles that define a person. This philosophy has become the foundation of my art practice.

Current Focus – Gen Z Feminist Portraiture
My current series focuses on a bold young woman whose identity, feminist convictions, and lived experiences shape her presence. She is not a single individual but rather a composite an emblem of strength, vulnerability, defiance, and grace. In her, I aim to portray the contemporary Indian woman: navigating tradition and modernity, speaking up against social limitations, and embracing her individuality without apology.
I work primarily in watercolor, acrylic, and oil, often layering textures to create depth and atmosphere. My brushwork shifts between controlled precision and expressive looseness—sometimes in the same portrait—to mirror the tension between societal constraints and personal freedom. This layered approach reflects the complexity of identity and the many emotional shades of resilience.

Art with Purpose
I believe art should elevate voices that are too often sidelined. Every portrait I create is a dialogue—between the subject and the viewer, between inner truth and public perception. Through bold strokes, raw textures, and intentional use of light and shadow, I aim to inspire not only aesthetic appreciation but also empathy, conversation, and awareness.
Over the years, my work has sparked meaningful discussions in online communities and has been embraced by art lovers who see themselves, their daughters, sisters, and friends in the stories my portraits tell. Social media has allowed me to reach a diverse audience, and the feedback I receive continually reinforces the importance of representing these narratives in contemporary art.
