Description

Description: I give my paintings numbers because I would rather that the viewer is not influenced by a name. I want the viewer to discover something in the painting that is entirely new and personal to them. Something that they recognise as in a memory and yet they have never seen.

I painted this piece over a number of months while listening to quartets by Schubert and Beethovan. The colours were applied and often removed by scraping or over painting. Over the many months of working it is impossible to know which parts of the painting were influenced by particular pieces of music, though Schubert’s Trout was listened to very often.

The paper on which I work is an Italian paper: 300gm Fabriano Artistico. It is acid free and will not yellow or discolour with age. The oil paint is made by the best colour man in the UK, Michael Harding.
