A painting about love and reminiscence, a restful painting about comfort and contentment. This is one of my most pastoral of scenes, and partly inspired by the Cheshire landscape or rolling fields and isolated trees which stand like island kings of their pasture. A huge stone monolith rises high over a grass field, a scene of autumn as the sun sets in a mythical September. A tiny spider hangs from the stone, old yet stable. In the lower right corner, a tiny couple gaze up at the sight, as though a memory of their relationship stands before them. Two old trees stand side by side on the horizon, leafless, representing the future perhaps, and in a greater distance a star embraces the moon in the high sky above. This work in oil is painted on perspex and this translucent surface adds a subtle back-reflection to this painting. The multiple layers of paint reflect delicate violets, greens and oranges that no photograph or print could ever match.
